HotelHotels Unless you are travelling on a package holiday you will probably only stay in an overnight hotel to break up long journeys.  The exception is if you are staying in a major city such as Paris.  Therefore it is on City Hotels and Overnight Hotels that we focus here.

Convenient Overnight Hotels:

We have stayed in these hotels and can recommend them as convenient for overnight stops.  There are two groups:

1. Those useful for overnight stops between Calais and the Lot/Dordogne/South West.

2. Those useful for overnight stops along the A6 when heading to the Côte D'Azur or Provence.

Stopping in an Overnight Hotel:
If you are travelling a long distance in France it is well worth considering an overnight stop.  Driving whilst tired is highly dangerous and is a common cause of ruined holidays where a British visitor tries to reach the South of France in one go.  Select the Hotel Chain List for a list of all the major hotel chains offering conveniently located hotels / motels along the major routes throughout France.  In peak season and at weekends you are strongly advised to book ahead.

Paris Hotel Recommendations:

If you are planning a trip to Paris you will probably stay in a hotel.  We have limited experience of hotels in Paris.....the ones we have stayed in we list here....if you have any recommendations please send us feedback.
Some of the gite rental agencies have Paris apartments on their books if you prefer your independence!

Hotels in France:

For families planning holidays and thinking of possible accommodation options we have put together a list of hotel chains/groups throughout France. Many of the chains listed below have hotels near to major autoroutes and ‘N’ roads. They are frequently located on the outskirts of towns/cities with easy access to motorway junctions. We hope to expand this list over time to give you more detailed information on what facilities/services are offered by each group. Do let us know if there are any major hotel groups that we have missed.

Accor Group (which comprises: Pullman, Sofitel, Mgallery, Novotel, Mercure, Suite, Adagio, All Seasons, Ibis, Etap and Formule 1) Akena Hotels (a small hotel group with less than 30 hotels in total), Arcantis Hotel (just over 60 2* and 3* hotels throughout France), B & B Hotel (one of the bigger hotel chains with around 180 hotels throughout France), Balladins (just under 150 hotels with different levels of comfort), Best Hotel (19 hotels currently - accommodation is basic, but with all you’d need for an overnight stopover), Best Western, Brit Hotel (a growing group of more than 80 2* and 3* hotels, mainly in Brittany), Citadines Apart’Hotel (in a limited number of French cities, but excellent if you want an apartment for as little as 1 night for a family. For example there are 16 Citadine Apart’Hotels in Paris), Fast Hotel (just over 60 hotels are available throughout France.  Accommodation is basic, but with all you’d need for an overnight stopover. Breakfast is an optional payable extra), Louvre Hotels group (which owns: Campanile, Premiere Classe, Kyriad Prestige and Kyriad), Mamotte Hotels (about 27 hotels, all in the northern half of the country. Most are situated on the edge of towns within each reach of major routes – either péages or ‘N’ roads), Marriott (13 hotels of which 11 are in or around Paris), Minotel (city centre rather than en route hotels), Mister Bed, New Hotel (4 in Paris and 9 in southern France) and finally Radisson (just over 60 hotels throughout France, mainly in town/city centres and at ports).
